I give this book:

As soon as I opened this book I saw a festival of colour through the delightful illustrations by the talented Aurelia Fronty.  The colours and style of the illustrations told a story within  a story, giving the reader a glimpse of the joy in Malala’s life despite the dark times and was an important addition to the authors words.

Frier sensitively presented Malala’s story to a young audience and captured the bravery, strength and determination of one young girls belief in basic human rights.  As I read through the book I found the author had been respectful of Malala’s beliefs and culture and gave an accurate portrayal of her life.  Malala’s father had a great belief in her ability and encouraged her to follow her heart.  Despite the fight for education for women almost ending in tragedy, she continues to be an advocate to this day and shows a woman with great resilience.

The book was the right length for a young audience and the additional biographical and time line information at the rear of the book was the perfect addition.

This book spreads a positive message and teaches young people, especially young women to be brave, resilient, and to have a strong believe in themselves and this is why I highly recommend this book.
