The Go-Away bird sits in her nest looking strong and proud, and as other birds fly to the tree wanting to be friends, she sends them away. It is not until the Go-Away bird is visited by the Get-You bird that she realises how important friends are.
When the sadness and anxiety is getting too much, Dad tells Maya how her mum used the garden to shine a little light when her happiness was lost. “…Your mum knew that by the time the seeds had grown, these worries would have faded away. She called them her seeds of hope.”
I am always on the lookout for board books that I can use for Baby and Toddler Storytime sessions at the Library or to give as gifts. These are just 4 of many books that I think have something special about them and want to share with you.
The newest two books in the Alphaprints range – Happy Dog & Quirky Bird are a wonderful addition to these touch-and-feel textured prints and fingerprint embossed pictures. These highly creative books are humorous, with pictures that are different to your average hardback book.
My words will not do this book justice, because I can barely find the words for the up-close photography gives you a look at animals and nature like you have never seen before. The front of the book drew me in the first time I saw it, its beauty doesn’t just lie in its shiny cover though, the pages within are captivating and the information will keep you immersed for hours.
The art activity is such a big part of the literacy experience. It shouldn’t be just an add on at the end of a story time. I find it most successful when there is lots of discussion while creating and then the stories the children share with me about their creation.
Each of these books are a little treasure trove of information and facts. As I turned each page I was quit excited what I found. Facts and activities that are engaging for children but also a scientific learning experience.
