Marvellous Mummy

Today I am dedicating this review to the mamma’s in my life, My mamma and my Mother in Law.  Love you both and hope you have had a special day.

Marvellous Mummy is a beautiful book to celebrate the relationship between a child and their mummy at anytime of the year.  It is a fun little book that celebrates all the different traits of a mum, including those times when she is grumpy, and mothers day is the perfect day to read it.

‘My mummy is brave and daring and strong.  Jump, jump, swing.’ This is one of my favourite lines in the book because it sums up all the mums I know in my life and no doubt it will for others too.  I like that the author doesn’t hide from the less fun mummy times, such as ‘My mummy is grumpy and grouchy and cross.  Grumble, grumble, roar.’ When reading this book the children will enjoy the onomatopoeia and will want to shout out with you the grumbles, tickles, boo’s and squishes.

There are few words on each page which makes it a good book for a child that is just learning to read.  This also makes it a good read for a toddler and older child, and is full of spirit and fun.  I find it quite amusing that mummy elephant scares daddy elephant and feels the freedom of swinging from a tree branch, it shows that mums can have fun too.  The author clearly has a sense of humour an this shows throughout the book.

While the book has a beautiful story and is a great celebration of mamma’s, the animals are dressed in clothes and I am not a big fan of making animals look like humans.  Aside from that small part, the illustrations have been beautifully done and are a mix of bright and pastel colours.

Overall, it is a lovely story that celebrates motherhood, family and love.

Thank you to New Frontier books for the opportunity to read and honestly review this book.
