Elsie Elephant is a board book that will simply delight you and your young reader.  The story begins at night with a NOT so tired Elsie…sound familiar anyone?  It turns out that Elsie has a lot to say and as she stomps through the jungle, trumpeting loudly she wakes other animals along the way.  As morning approaches she begins to feel tired, but…I don’t want to give the ending away, but let’s just say Elsie may not get as much sleep as she likes.

Elsie Elephant is a sound-button story, so it is probable that your toddler and preschooler will press the button over and over again.  The noise is an elephant sound and is a good teaching aid for animal noises.  It will not take long for your little one to mimic the trumpeting of an elephant.

This book is in rhyming format and the words flow smoothly.  The illustrations are simply gorgeous, the dark blue, purple and greenish hues creating a nighttime atmosphere that takes you on Elsie’s journey.  Elsie herself has been illustrated quite endearingly, from the tuffs of hair on her head to her sweet little smile of delight.

This lovely story will make a beautiful addition to your little ones collection of books, and you will  both delight in Elsie’s adventure through the jungle.

Thank you to Nosy Crow and  Allen & Unwin for the opportunity to read and honestly review this book.
