I am a big advocate of having Non Fiction books readily available for children to read. They are great learning tools that often don’t make the reader feel like they are learning because they are having so much fun, yes learning can be fun.
Alfred’s War is a moving tribute to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Veterans, and the sacrifices they made as they served our country. This poignant story opens the readers hearts to the Indigenous Australians contribution to the war, and the lack of support and discrimination they were subject to on their return home.
He is whimsical, magical, silly, imaginative and a whole lot mysterious, but most of all you know he’s got your back. Mr Bambuckle is the teacher everyone wants except for Miss Frost and Principle Sternblast.
Heidi Cooper Smith made me want to smile, cry, laugh and tap into every emotion possible when reading this story. She has beautifully captured a child’s feelings about new situations and the illustrations are just WOW!
Shout Out to the Girls is my definite pick of the month for a must have book, especially for Australian children and teens. With all the royalties going to The Smith Family charity you not only get to read the book but help those in need.
Congratulations to the various Penguin Random House women that put this together, I thank you for opening my mind to possibilities.
Congratulations to all those that have made it to the notables list , I am super proud of the quality of Australian literature, the children of Australia are so blessed to have such good quality books at their fingertips, and for those children that don’t let’s make it possible.
