The art activity is such a big part of the literacy experience. It shouldn't be just an add on at the end of a story time. I find it most successful when there is lots of discussion while creating and then the stories the children share with me about their creation.
Nature Explorers – A Stem Experience
Each of these books are a little treasure trove of information and facts. As I turned each page I was quit excited what I found. Facts and activities that are engaging for children but also a scientific learning experience.
Thea Stilton Graphic Novel #7: A Song For Thea
I loved this Thea Stilton Graphic novel and thought it gave a beautifully strong message to young girls and boys to believe in themselves, and that they can do anything you put your mind to!
Braille – On the Move
I see this book as a thing of beauty. You're probably asking why? Or maybe you see the beauty in it too. I see beauty in inclusiveness, in access for all, in all society having access to books. I love that the book is about cars, tractors, planes and helicopters just as books for seeing children would be.
I’m Australian Too
In writing this book, Mem Fox called her book a "Rhythmic, loving, friendly Australian book, about all the people who have come here to make Australia the lovely place it is." I believe Mem has achieved this as she has captured the Australian spirit and more.
Throwback Thursday – You’ll Soon Grow Into Them Titch
Titch needed new pants. His Brother pete said, "You can have my old pants, they're too small for me."They're still a bit big for me," said Titch. "You'll soon grow into them," said Pete.
The Way Home in the Night
Lights in doorways, bikes leaning on buildings, baby rabbit, the moon and balloons all adorned the pages at some point in the book. They tell me a story of parties, a street at night, bed time and people waiting for someone to come home. I could go on for some time about how much I enjoyed the illustrations and the impact they had on me, but overall, they were just delightful.
Dino Riders
What is there not to love about dinosaurs, now that they are extinct that is... Author Will Dare brings dinosaurs alive again and makes them seem even more lovable in both ' How to Tame a Triceratops' and ' How to Rope a Giganotosaurus' .
This is the Kiss
What I love about being a Librarian and working in a library is that you come across gorgeous books such as this one. It is books like this one that I find very endearing to read to children
Big & Little Questions (According to Wren Jo Byrd)
"Lots of thing have changed since my last first week of school...but all those changes seem little compared to the big change that happened over the summer. Dad moved out. When your parents decide to get a divorce, someone has to leave."
