Lest We Forget

When deciding which book to share with you all for ANZAC day, I looked through a few and found REFLECTION to be a beautiful tribute to the men that have served Australia through the cold, muddy trenches.

“We stand with out comrades, in salute to the fallen”

This beautiful tribute to Australian soldiers is one of the nicest I have seen for our ANZACS.  The contrast between observing ANZAC day and when the soldiers fought in war is unique. The book has been written with the greatest respect to those who fought for our country and tells the story in a child friendly manner.

Each picture tells a story both with and without the words.  You do not necessarily need to read the words because the pictures create a lot of discussion.   There is just something special about the watercolour wash illustrations that I find beautiful.  The red sky and the words “We listen as the last post sounds” almost brings me to tears, the haunting sound of the trumpet playing echo’s in my ears.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book by Rebecka and Robin.  I think it is a book that is suited to reading to a child one-on-one because I believe it will evoke discussion. However, for school aged children a group reading and discussion session would work well.

Thank you to Rebecka and Robin for writing and illustrating this book.  Thank you to our troops who kept my family past and current safe, and protected our beautiful Australia.
