Yoga Babies
by Fearne Cotton introduces children and parents to the calming nature of Yoga through a picture book story.

The opening pages of this book instantly engage the reader as we are greeted by illustrations of colourful mats, toys and teddies, each of the babies with their own unique personalities.  The author has incorporated yoga into the book seamlessly, with a family on each page combining yoga into their day.  On one page a family is having a bad day and mum suggests its time to take a ‘…deep breath and relax’, another page has Prakash and his granny simply making stretching into a game.

The illustrations are colourful, engaging, and capture family differences that demonstrate readers from all cultures can chill through the art of yoga.  The babies have been captured as rosy, pot bellied, bow wearing, cheeky individuals.

What I appreciate about this book is that it hasn’t gone into the spiritual practice of yoga, the focus is simply on stretching, relaxation, and breathing techniques that are calming for children.

There is more to this book then simply just reading it, you and your child can stretch along with the babies too.  If you are still left wanting more you can also pop over to the New Frontier website where you can print out a Yoga Babies poster and doorhanger.

Thank you to New Frontier Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
