I give this:
If you give a mouse a brownie you will notice that he is soooo cute that you will do anything that he wants you to do and be exhausted at the end. Mouse is so adorable that nothing will be too much and when he wants spoons to eat his brownie with which you know he will, he will want to play the drums and you won’t ever be able to say no…and so the story goes.
Laura Numeroff has done a wonderful job of writing two such lovable characters and although we don’t know the characters names they are instantly endearing. From the moment I read through the first couple of pages I could see the pace of the book would be fun for a story time group and lead to further activities to broaden the literacy experience such as reading a recipe to make brownies.
Just as it seems from this picture the book is fun, mayhem, speedy and exhausting.
The Illustrator Felicia Bond is a gifted artist and she has drawn the characters in such a way that you instantly love them. The mouse is very expressive with a hint of cheekiness.
I must admit I have not read any others in the series but they are now on the list because when reading to children I like to make it as fun as possible. I know this is going to be a favourite read for many children, and I know it is now one of mine.
