Sometimes some books impact you, and you can’t really put your finger on what it is. Bronte is like this for me. Apart from being incredibly proud of Penny, whom I am privileged to know, the book sparked something inside of me that made me cry and feel thankful for being able to read it.
I know I sound a tad dramatic right now, but I don’t believe I am alone in my feelings about this book and I highly recommend that you read it to see why I love it so much.
Bronte is brave, adventurous, full-of-beans and will make you laugh. She is a dreamer, a climber, a hugger and fancy-free, but most of all, she is just herself, which is the message that Penny is sharing with us in this beautiful book. Bronte shows us that we can be anything we want to be, and that is ok. We can dream and play all day, but the important thing is that we be ourselves while doing it.
The illustrator, Evie Barrow, is super talented and has brought Bronte and her boots to life. The book is bright and shares a story all of its own through pictures. Bronte has bright red hair with freckles on her cheeks, which oddly makes her feel relatable. I think she is very much the reminder of being a young child who is care-free, and many children will look at her and see themselves in her. Evie has successfully captured imagination and childhood in her illustrations and the hearts of her readers.
If you want a book that will empower your child to be all that they are then Bronte, Me and My Boots is the one to read.
Congratulations Penny and Evie on a fantastic book.
