Musings

Today I just wanted to share some thoughts I had recently about literacy programs.
Each child has the the right to learn and be immersed in literacy in libraries, each person that walks through the doors should feel as valuable as the person before and after them.

Happy Birthday Mummy Pig!

I am not normally a Peppa Pig reader, but when I saw this absolutely adorable board book I knew I needed to share it with you all.  I didn’t realise just how delightful it was until I started the Happy Birthday song from the button on the top right hand corner.

This book is a classic example of making literacy and reading fun.

Fluffywuffy

The first time I opened this book I instantly loved it. The story begins with Mr Moot living his happy quiet life with his beloved Fluffywuffy.  He wasn’t troubled by anything, that is until cousin Clarence decides to move in for …”a week…or a month, or quite possibly a year!” Mr Moot was optimistic that it wouldn’t be so bad, fluffywuffy remained knowingly silent.

Olivia’s Voice

Listen. What do you hear?

The first words in the book are on a blank page and they instantly awakened my senses and curiosity saw me turning to the next page.

“Today I woke up to the silence of a new morning.”

The next page, I literally had a small gasp and a large smile as the beautiful illustrations greeted me. From this moment I knew I was hooked, that beautiful beaming face that is Olivia, and the beautiful morning greeting the reader through the curtains.

Throwback Thursday- A Little Golden Book

Each time I do a Throwback Thursday post, I am always reminded how very blessed I am to have been exposed to the wonderful world of literacy from such an early age. I am sure most of us have grown up with the Little Golden Books, I know that they were a staple book in our house and we had many. I still have Heidi that was gifted to me from my nanny and poppy just before I turned 1.

That Bear CAN’T Babysit

I hope you are ready for a laugh and some mischievous bunnies, and a bear that CAN’T babysit…or so it is said.  This delightful book sees Mr and Mrs Burrow needing a babysitter for Anna, Adelaide, Betsy, Bill, Caspar, Clive and little Dottie. They put out an ad and only one animal answers the call…Bear.

Do Not Open This Book

Andy Lee is not someone you think of as an author of a children’s book, well I don’t anyway, I usually associate him adult humour.  Andy is quite adamant that the pages shouldn’t be turned….but it is just too tempting of course and well read on to find out more…

Hey Diddle Diddle It’s National Simultaneous Storytime

Today at 11am was National simultaneous Storytime (NSS) which is an annual Australian event that is aimed at encouraging young Australians to read and enjoy books. More information can be found at ALIA.
This years book is The Cow Tripped Over the Moon by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood. It is such a fun story, and in celebration of NSS I thought I would share my thoughts on this book.
