As you entered an unknown harrowing time where learning to survive was what consumed your everyday - I saw you both and I felt helpless that I could only listen to your story, but I was also hopeful. With every bit of anguish, aspirations that were stomped on, harsh words, abuse and longing for home, for the haven life used to be, my only hope was that you would be safe with no lasting mental or physical scars.
Explanatorium of Nature
My words will not do this book justice, because I can barely find the words for the up-close photography gives you a look at animals and nature like you have never seen before. The front of the book drew me in the first time I saw it, its beauty doesn't just lie in its shiny cover though, the pages within are captivating and the information will keep you immersed for hours.
Happy Birthday Mummy Pig!
I am not normally a Peppa Pig reader, but when I saw this absolutely adorable board book I knew I needed to share it with you all. I didn't realise just how delightful it was until I started the Happy Birthday song from the button on the top right hand corner. This book is a classic example of making literacy and reading fun.
Aussie Animals Indigenous Books – Smarty Art
When looking through books to add to the Aussie Animals Smarty Arty experience I found a lot of indigenous books. These books engage children in aspects of Aboriginal culture, beautiful art work and stories of Australian Animals. The library I borrowed them from had such a good variety of indigenous themed books that I found it hard to chose, but these are some which I thought would be fun to pair with the art experience.
The Incredible Fold-Out Book of Animals
There is something quite spectacular about this book, and just by looking at the cover you do not realise just how compelling it is until you open the pages and are presented with striking photos of animals. The words I have seem inadequate to describe the stunning photography.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Getaway
It was my first time reading a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, I was so engrossed I read it within an hour. When I closed the book I declared that Jeff Kinney is the first person to get me to enjoy disastrous comedy, he is the Master of Disaster with a whole lot of laughter thrown in. Truth be told I normally avoid books where things go wrong all the time, however The Getaway was so funny, engaging and disaster filled that I couldn't help but love it.
This is a Book!
This book is "...NOT - an iPad! It's not linked. It's not synched... It's so BORING!..." Oh actually wait - I just have to interrupt and say that it is FAR from BORING! It's actually a whole lot of FUN!
A World Full of Animal Stories
This book is a beautiful and interesting extravaganza of folktales and legends that celebrate animals and culture, some that will be familiar to you and some that won't. These stories are brought to life as we travel the globe to Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe, Australia and Oceania.
