The Garden of Hope

When the sadness and anxiety is getting too much, Dad tells Maya how her mum used the garden to shine a little light when her happiness was lost.  “…Your mum knew that by the time the seeds had grown, these worries would have faded away.  She called them her seeds of hope.”

Marvellous Mummy

Marvellous Mummy is a beautiful book to celebrate the relationship between a child and their mummy at anytime of the year.  It is a fun little book that celebrates all the different traits of a mum, including those times when she is grumpy, and mothers day is the perfect day to read it.

The Harper Effect

When one takes a week off to watch tennis they also take the time to read a novel about tennis of course.  Well The Harper Effect isn't just about tennis, it explores family dynamics, friendship, dreams, ambition, determination and love.

Even Fairies Fart

In fairy tales, things will always feel more perfect than in life.  The dashing prince will find the fairest maiden for his wife...Well...you might be shocked to hear this, but even fairies fart! (Jennifer Stinson)

Hug Machine

With a title like Hug Machine there was no way I could go past this book, hugs are one of the most simple acts one can do but is also one of the most caring and kind things that can be done.  It is books like this, spreading love and happiness that I want to share with children.

Sparrow

There is such strong YA fiction being written in Australia at the moment, and Sparrow is right up there as being one of the best. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book that was set along the coastal region of the Kimberley -  a rugged remote Australian location, with deep gorges and mostly isolated coastline.  It didn't take me long to be impacted by this book which went deeper than I expected. Those very first chapters saw the characters become so ingrained within me that I didn't want to close the book at the end. I wanted to continue to follow Sparrow on his journey.
