This book is adorable, fun and quality reading material from Allen & Unwin and Nosy Crow.  These books continue delight me with how they present books for young children, and how well they support developmental areas such as reading, crecognition, fine motor and communication skills.  There is so much to love about this book for 1 to 3 year olds and this is for sure going to be well read in Storytime this year for me.

This board book follows the story of Bizzy Bear as an emergency worker.  We see Bizzy answering the emergency line, driving the ambulance and making sure the patient gets safely to hospital.  There is lot of repetition of the line Bizzy Bear, Bizzy Bear” which will assist children with word recognition.  The book Rhymes and this assists children with remembering words, e.g. “Bizzy Bear, Bizzy Bear, on the line.  Bizzy Bear, Bizzy Bear, ambulance time!”  These sentences are simple and to the point and correlate well with the illustrations.

Sliders can be pushed and pulled throughout the book which further engages your little one in the story.  On the pages where you push the siren colours side to side, you can encourage your little one to make a siren noise to go along with it and it won’t be long until they are making up sounds of their own.

The illustrations are beautiful.  The characters are all sweet little animals showing different emotions depending on what is happening in the book.  I think it is great that the children are exposed to a range of emotions such as worry, tears of sadness, happiness, concern and contentment.  This shows children that it is ok to express how you feel and demonstrates that our feelings differ depending on the situation.

This is one of my favourite pages because the slider acts as the curtain being pulled across . Looks very cool.

I feel this book will be loved by many, and I certainly think it is one to gift a child with.  It is going to be one of the first books I share this year for a toddler storytime because it is that 1-3 age group that will really enjoy the interactive components of this Board Book.

Thank you to Allen & Unwin for the opportunity to read and review this book
