The rainbow fish books have been around for a while now and Marcus Pfister has been consistent in creating books with beautiful illustrations, usually with illuminated pinks, blues, purples and oranges. The beautiful underwater pictures are familiar to children and are one of the reasons why we love the Rainbow Fish stories so much.
Do Not Open This Book
Andy Lee is not someone you think of as an author of a children's book, well I don't anyway, I usually associate him adult humour. Andy is quite adamant that the pages shouldn't be turned....but it is just too tempting of course and well read on to find out more...
Shark Lady
I wasn't sure what to expect from the book 'Shark Lady: the true story of how Eugenie Clark became the ocean's most fearless scientist'. To be honest I had never heard of her before, but when I read the description of the book I was indeed wanting to learn more about her and her love for sharks.
You’re One!
I eagerly awaited publication day to take this book to a baby storytime to read so that I could see if the babies, mammas and dads enjoyed this book as much as I did. The response was delightful, the babies were in awe and more engaged than I could imagine. The parents had big awes at the end and I knew this book was a hit.
The Artistic Literacy Experience
Recently I did a couple of different story times based on dinosaurs at two different libraries. I was excited to use the Knock Knock Dinosaur book by Nick East that I recently reviewed at both the story times and it was a hit! Both sessions were different sizes so the other books I chose were based on those groups, so the other books I used were different at each session.
Fairy House Cooking
I know so many boys and girls (and adults too) that will love this book, and it is sure to become a cookbook and party favourite. Liza Gardener Walsh has put together a Fairy House Cooking book that has recipes and party fun that will delight the palette and have your child pouring over the pages for hours, deciding what to cook and how to put their fairy picnic or party together.
Building Faith Block by Block
What I love about this book is that the authors have brought together a super popular game and paired it so cleverly with the word of God and applying practical lessons into real life. With this book tweens and teens will gain knowledge of the game as well as thinking about lessons learnt from the game in a biblical perspective.
Different? Same!
"We are all different , as different as can be...But now look closer" and just like that I was engaged from start to finish, the author had captured my attention and imagination from the first page.
Hey Diddle Diddle It’s National Simultaneous Storytime
Today at 11am was National simultaneous Storytime (NSS) which is an annual Australian event that is aimed at encouraging young Australians to read and enjoy books. More information can be found at ALIA. This years book is The Cow Tripped Over the Moon by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood. It is such a fun story, and in celebration of NSS I thought I would share my thoughts on this book.
Jake Atlas and the Tomb of the Emerald Snake
When I first started reading this book, I immediately thought Indiana Jones with a modern day twist. This fast paced adventure will engage your readers from ages 9 and above.
